Morgan Stanley

Background

The objective of this project was to replace an existing platform which provides services on the Hedge fund industry through the public website.

On my second day at work, Morgan Stanley project was already assigned to me, the project had already started much earlier and a lot of prototyping was already in place.

However, the prototype in place faced lots of luck of usability, layouts weren’t thought through and I began to realise it was really confusing to the user, similarly we got the same feedback from the users.

As an initiative I suggested a new layout but unfortunately lots of development was already in place and making changes would delay the deadline project.

The Problem

As the project continued evolving, and noticed the starting point of a user journey was only thought somewhere in the middle of the Design stage of the project. I also realised that none of the prototyping was aligned with Morgan Stanley style guidelines.

As part of the feedback loops I began to flag it to the tech team and suggested must change to align to their styles the later implied more time on the development side but this needed to be done.

The goal

Deliver a user friendly project, easy to engage and use by both internal and external users. Ensure all the designs are consistent and aligned to MS style guidelines, making our platform seamless and well integrated with their website.

Build trust and a relationship with every stakeholder in the project and continue working together and be part of future - projects and hopefully get theirs logo on our website.

The process

Lean UX

As the project has been already developed and time was crucial the below were applied to get the Design side of the project up to date.

Research

  • A heuristic evaluation to review what we have currently designed and how i could improve it

  • Review MS website and compare ours to start aligning the elements of our pages to theirs

  • Engaged with their Design team to get assets and library

Prototype

I worked directly on the original designs and continued building the starting point of the user journeys on the platform. View prototypes on invision

Testing

This step was done once a week and we had lots of feedback, quick changes were made to ensure we were on track.

Once the project was ready for UTA, the Design team at MS was also part of it, reassuring we were meeting their standards and i'm glad we got it right.

Build

Once approval was signed off the Tech took over and the project was delivered with 2 months being on time.

We now have a new project on its way.
